WCW Thunder
August 24, 2007
Sydney, Australia
(As the bright Thunder-like pyro finishes, Tazz & Joey Styles are seen sorting papers and preparing for the night)
Joey Styles: The home of the WCW Champion & the site of Sunday night’s historic Rock The Vote free-per-view…welcome ladies & gentlemen, welcome to Sydney, Austria and WCW Thunder… the last one going into our voting-orientated free per view
Tazz: Big words, Styles, didn’t know you had it in you
Styles: Well, you know… but nevermind about that, we have some big action tonight which is sure to give you just a taste of what to expect on Sunday. First we have Goldberg finally getting his revenge on the Instant Classic Christian Cage & his esteemed manager Coach D’Amore in one-on-one action
Tazz: I think the hype of his debut finally caught up with him… hopefully he can once again pull out a victory
Styles: Minus D’Amore’s help.
Tazz: Then I hear we will have Jim Cornette deciding Kurt Angle’s new partner for his tag team championship match for Rock the Vote
Styles: Batista is out from WCW indefinitely after missing a show and leaving Cornette to redo last week’s show which was slated for Batista to face Alex Shelley
Tazz: Yeah, I here the lucky guys from Detroit will now get a title shot because of it
Styles: Motor City Machineguns don’t deserve it but we will see what happens. And finally tonight, it’s our blockbuster main event, in a weird turn of events Raven is siding with the respectful champion Dean James to take on the leaders of the new era of wrestling in WCW…Samoa Joe and the Legend Killer Randy Orton
Tazz: How well can the champ and his possible opponent for Rock the Vote work together? Can they overlook being rivals for the better of the company or will the youthful team of Joe & Orton overcome another obstacle throw in their way
Styles: We will find out the answers to those questions live here tonight
(“Takeover” plays as the pyro comes down with Cage walking through it with his hood over his face… D’Amore runs up out of no where, in the camera as always)
Hudson: Welcome to another edition of WCW Thunder live in Sydney, Australia! Our first match of the night is for one fall introducing first from Tampa, Florida, by way of Toronto, Ontario, Canada … with his manager Coach D’Amore, the Instant Classic Christian Cage!
Tazz: The Instant Classic sure has his head held high when he doesn’t even know who he will be facing here tonight
Styles: Something him & D’Amore didn’t figure into their plans for their careers in WCW. Both men have been a pain in the side after the 5-way match last week but which one of those men going to try and get revenge tonight?
(“Who’s Next” plays as the still unpinned dominant superstar walks through the pyro & comes to the ring)
Hudson:, he is still the only man in WCW still not pinned or submitted, he is Goldberg!
Styles: Christian Cage in the Battle Royal screwed Goldberg last week setting off a temper uncontrollable by anyone in WCW…
Tazz: Cage attacked him with the hockey stick, which set off a chain of events that lead Goldberg landing outside on his face
Styles: Goldberg has decided to challenge him tonight…under a more non-battle royal element
Opening Bout
Christian Cage vs. Goldberg
(Goldberg & Cage trade a few blows in the middle of the ring while D’Amore is screaming out orders toward the ref. Goldberg has landed several Suplex’s to the Instant Classic but, as always, the Coach has something up his sleeve)
Styles: And a Clothesline to Cage, and another…. And another, Cage tosses off the ropes… and a Back Body Drop to Cage and Goldberg is on a roll!
Tazz: He has to keep it up, this match is not over
Styles: But it looks like he wants to end it as Goldberg is setting himself up in the corner and it may be time for a spear
Tazz: Look a D’Amore… I’ve never seen the fat man run so fast…
Styles: Yeah to run and grab Goldberg’s legs from running… and Goldberg doesn’t look too happy about it… and (as the crowd cheers) he grabs D’Amore! Give it to him Goldberg!
Tazz: Watch Cage though, the ref is paying attention to Goldberg & D’Amore… and there’s the crown jewels
Styles: Low Blow by Cage… the roll up and he has the tights! He has the tights! … and Goldberg kicks out
Tazz: That was close… hey what’s Kurt Angle doing out here?
Styles: And he has the WCW’s World Tag Team titles on his arms? And where’s Cage going?
Tazz: To the top?
Styles: He’s adopted a high-flying style, Tazz… Cage going for the Frog Splash… and he lands face first into the pond of canvas… and Goldberg is looking for that Spear again… and he lands it! He saws Cage in half…
Tazz: Jackhammer time!… Great here comes, D’Amore again
Styles: D’Amore once again harrasing the ref… and Goldberg is waiting for Cage to get up… but D’Amore didn’t see that right hand by Goldberg…finally someone shut him up
Tazz: But Goldberg is distracted…here come Cage off the ropes… looks like a Flying Clothesline
Styles: And Goldberg… a little payback there sidesteps Cage’s momentum and he catches some rope to the throat… kick to the midsection… and he’s up… Delayed Vertical Suplex… into a pinning combination… it’s the Jackhammer… and the win
Winner – Goldberg
Time – 7:22
Hudson: Your winner… Goldberg!
Tazz: And Goldberg gets a little revenge on Christian Cage and Coach D’Amore
Styles: And here comes Kurt coming down to the ring? We have to go to commercial but when we come back we find out why the Olympic gold medallist is out here…
(Commercial airs for Randy Orton’s match against John Cena and the chance for one of those men to face the WCW Champion at Sold Out…it comes back with not only Goldberg & Kurt Angle but Jim Cornette is in the ring as well)
Styles: Let’s go in the ring with the WCW owner, Jim Cornette
Cornette: Now half of you are wondering what the heck is going on in this ring? Why is Kurt Angle out here with the tag titles… well before I get to that I wanna call out a certain Legend Killer in the back…Randy Orton can we see you please
(“Burn in my Light” plays as Randy Orton comes to the ramp with his tag partner for the night Samoa Joe & the new era movement leader Vince Russo)
Russo: Hey, Jim, what’s happenin’
Cornette: I didn’t ask for the whole Brady Bunch to be out here now did I? Well as long as you’re here I might as well make my announcement… see Randy for quite some time now John Cena hasn’t been heard of and I’m wondering if you and your Looney Tunes had something to do with it
Orton: Us? Nah, no way… WWE was one fued, WCW is another, Cornette, you know that
Cornette: In any case, we still need a challenger for your match so I’ve decided to pick this man…
(Suddenly “Live for the Moment” plays as the crowd is hysterical at the presence of the Mattitude follower)
Matt Hardy: I came to WCW to make a statement, and it’s simple… one way or another I will be WCW Champion and if it takes going through you then I will do it… Legend Killer or not Randy, I will not die!
Orton: Then your fate has been chosen… it is my destiny to be champion… I will kill you Matt Hardy
Matt: We will see Randy
(Crowd cheers as both sides go back to backstage as Jim, Angle & Goldberg still stands)
Cornette: Now that that’s all over let’s get to the final order of buisness. Goldberg, I have recognized your greatness as a undefeated man here in WCW and so has Kurt
Kurt Angle: And without anyone’s help you kept your winning streak and beaten Christian for that… I would be honored for you to fight at my side this Sunday and help me regain these titles (holds out his hand)
(As Goldberg shakes his hand, Cornette leaves… the crowd starts to scream warning the celebrating of Goldberg & Angle)
Tazz: Here comes Cage again with that hockey stick… and Goldberg ducks but Angle catches it… Angle Slam! Angle Slam to Cage and he’s laid out!
Styles: (As “American Hero – ECW Remix” plays out both men leave the ring with their titles) what are Japan’s Most Wanted & Motor City Machineguns going to do if Batista wasn’t enough now it’s Goldberg!
Tazz: The balance of the tag team championship come to face on Sunday… I think these men can do it
(Backstage, Hollywood Hogan is sitting with his former manager Jimmy Hart as the crowd cheers at the site of the former MWC color commentator)
Jimmy Hart: Listen here, daddio, maybe it’s time we finally move on and let these young kids take there place in wrestling… It past by for us
Hogan: I don’t want to accept that, brother. There are Hoganites still our there, probably some Hulkamaniacs out there too
Hart: And I don’t doubt that, but what do you do when you go head to head against Russo and his people including Edge on Sunday
Hogan: Russo who, Jimmy? If he didn’t have those kids with him I’d…
(Vince Russo accompanied by Edge, Samoa Joe & Randy Orton show up)
Russo: You would do what, Hogan? Are you threatening my safety… that’s not good Hogan
Edge: Yeah, you may end up “killed” for something like that
Hogan: Try me, brother. Come on!
Hart: No Hogan! Not now wait ‘til Sunday
Orton: (As Russo, Orton, Joe & Edge walk away) Listen to your bitch, Hogan
Hart: What did you call me?
(Jimmy gets into Russo & Orton’s face until Edge, who was still walking away, spears him into the concrete and they run…)
Hogan: Jimmy? Are you ok? Someone get some help!
(Commercial airs for CM Punk vs. Tiger Mask vs. Billy Kidman’s match for the X Division title on Sunday)
(As it comes back, Tazz is shaking his head)
Styles: We have an update on Jimmy Hart, he’s been taking to the hospital after a heinous attack by Edge
Tazz: You know what, any other time I would let things fly over my head but Jimmy Hart isn’t even a wrestler and they speared an innocent man… I’m a legend why don’t one of y’all come pick on me then
Styles: Tazz, calm down
Tazz: No! Hey, Russo bring your bitches over here… I promise you, I’ll make one of them tap out!
Styles: We’ll speaking of Russo’s entourage… most of them will be in action this Sunday (as screen shots appear) It’s Edge to face Hollywood Hogan for the Intercontinental Championship
Tazz: What happens when the former NWO buddies square off finally? Who will come out the champion?
Styles: We have a #1 contender’s match for the WCW Championship which is now Matt Hardy against Randy Orton
Tazz: Matt has been vocal of his presence in WCW, he will not die and he will win the WCW title but Randy Orton has been on fire. Which man will fight for the ultimate prize at Sold Out?
Styles: It’s the new team of Goldberg & Kurt angle to face Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin of Motor City Machineguns and Jushin Liger & Ultimo Dragon of Japan’s Most Wanted
Tazz: What do you have when you put an Olympic gold medallist, a former undefeated champion, two rising X division stars, and two international superstars in one ring? You have all the makings for a rocketbuster
Styles: It’s the X Division Champion CM Punk to face Tiger Mask & the legend Billy Kidman for the title
Tazz: It’s going to be interesting how the clash of submission, striking & high-risk styles come together on Sunday
Styles: And then it’s the big one as Iceman Dean James faces Raven, Finlay or Sting for the WCW Championship
Tazz: The Irishman thinks hands down he should face the champ, the Icon wants to a rematch that’s he claims he deserves & the hardcore legend teams with the champ tonight but can he trust him… who will the fans vote for this Sunday at Rock the Vote
FINKEL: Ladies and Gentleman, the following contest is a tag team match, scheduled for one fall, and it is your Friday Night Thunder Featured Contest!
FINKEL: Introducing first, from the Isle of Samoa, weighing in at 280 pounds, he is the Samoan Submission Machine, SAMOA JOE!!!!
“Samoan Killer” plays and Samoa Joe makes his way out onto the stage wearing his signature stained towel. He looks extremely focused as he walks down the ramp at a brisk pace towards the ring. Joe rolls in the ring and holds up the towel.
STYLES: This man is a relative newcomer to WCW, this being only his second match here and he’s already in the main event.
TAZZ: That’s right Joey, Joe aligned himself with Vince Russo and Randy Orton’s vendetta to usher in the new era here in WCW, and ever since then he has been on fire, he may not have won his debut match, but did he ever look impressive. I’m expecting great things out of Joe, and having the Legend Killer in his corner couldn’t hurt either.
STYLES: Joe and Orton make a pretty impressive team Tazz, but they’re definitely gonna have their hands full tonight.
FINKEL: And his tag team partner, from St. Louis, Missouri, weighing in at 245 pounds, he is the Legend Killer, RANDY ORTON
“Burn in My Light” plays and Orton walks out onto the stage. He pauses and then does his Legend Killer taunt as his signature gold rain comes pouring down. He strolls down the ramp and calmly rolls into the ring. He stands up and strides over to the ring posts. He climbs up and does his legend killer taunt yet again.
STYLES: Now here’s a man who hasn’t been making many friends here in WCW lately. Ever since the end of MWC, Orton has felt that he wasn’t getting the main event push he deserved. And now that he has the support of Vince Russo, his ego is bigger than ever.
TAZZ: And why shouldn’t he have a large ego Joey, this is the man that single handedly led WCW in the fight with MWC, this is the man who one the battle royal at The Great American Bash to keep his job here, his accomplishments warrant a large ego. And he’s gonna add two more names to the list of people he’s defeated here tonight.
FINKEL: And there opponents, First from the Bowery, he is a former MWC World Champion, RAVEN!!!!!
Raven makes his way out through the curtain holding a Singapore cane. He gets to the top of the ramp and holds out his arms. He glares down Orton and Joe as he heads towards the ring. He stops at the bottom of the ramp.
FINKEL: And his tag team partner, from Victoria, Australia, weighing in at 230 pounds, he is the WCW Undisputed Champion, “The Iceman” DEAN JAMES!!!!!
“Symphony of Destruction” plays as Dean James walks out through the curtain holding his WCW Undisputed title over his shoulder. He holds up the title and his Edge like pyro shoots off. The fans are screaming for James as he makes his way down next to Raven. They look at each other and jump in the ring.
FRIDAY NIGHT THUNDER MAIN EVENT
Samoa Joe & Randy Orton vs. Raven & WCW Undisputed Champion Dean James
(As Raven and Dean James jump into the ring they are jumped by Joe and Orton. Joe is stomping Raven as Orton is pummeling Dean James in the face with repeated rights and lefts. Dean pushes Orton off of him and the two begin trading blows as the ref tries to regain order.)
TAZZ: It’s utter chaos in that ring; these men are just going after each other with no end in sight.
STYLES: The ref better get some control soon or this match is going to be a no contest.
The ref manages to get some control and it appears that Dean James and Samoa Joe are the legal men. Orton and Raven reluctantly go to their corners. Dean and Joe meet in the middle of the ring.
STYLES: Collar-Elbow tie up between Joe and Dean, both men jockeying for position and Joe over powers the Iceman, shoving him into the turnbuckle. And repeated shots by Joe.
TAZZ: man Joe’s not in a good mood tonight and that is not a good thing for the Iceman and Raven.
(The ref gets in between Joe and Dean and calls for the clean break. It appears that he will get it when Joe lands a vicious shot to Dean’s throat. Dean is holding his throat as Joe backs up. Joe lands a turnbuckle clothesline into a reverse STO. Joe walks over to his corner and tags in Orton. Orton walks up to Dean James, and begins a Randy Orton stomp.)
STYLES: Orton stomping the living hell out of the champ, and now Orton lets up, he’s walking over to Raven, and oh that was completely uncalled for, Orton spitting in Raven’s face.
TAZZ: Orton showing Raven that he has no respect for him, just like he said he didn’t. Orton isn’t going to let old farts like Raven take his place here at the top of WCW.
STYLES: Orton going back to work on Dean, but Raven runs into the ring and oh what a shot to the back of Orton’s head. Raven isn’t happy with Orton’s sign of disrespect, the ref tries to stop Raven but he won’t let up.
The ref is busy arguing with Raven so Samoa Joe slides into the ring. Orton and Joe begin double teaming the champ. Raven reluctantly leaves the ring. Right before the ref turns around, Joe hits a monstrous enziguri, then roles out of the ring.
STYLES: What a shot by Joe, and Orton is going for the pin 1………2………not this way………thre- no, the Iceman kicks out.
TAZZ: Wow that was a close one there Joey, but now Iceman is getting to his feet. Orton goes for a haymaker, but Dean blocks it. Right, Left, Right, Left Dean is really going to town on Orton.
(Orton reverses one of Dean James’ punches and Irish whips him into the ropes.)
STYLES: Orton going for a clothesline, but the Iceman ducks under it, and Oh what a flying clothesline by the Iceman. Both men down center of the ring, Dean is crawling towards his corner, and Orton doing the same. Dean’s almost there, and Ortons getting closer. DEAN GETS THE TAG, and so does Orton. Raven and Joe in!
(Joe and Raven charge at each other, Raven clotheslines Joe who gets back up only to be knocked back down again by another clothesline. Raven bounces off the ropes and delivers an elbow drop to Joe.)
TAZZ: Raven going for the pin 1…2…NO! Joe kicks out. Raven looks frustrated.
(He goes over to the ropes and thinks about what to do next. He doesn’t see Joe standing up behind him.)
STYLES: Coquina Clutch! Coquina Clutch! Joe has it locked in and Raven’s fading.
(Dean James rushes in and stomps on Joe’s head causing him to release the hold. Orton comes in and tries to attack Dean James.)
STYLES: The Iceman with a neckbreaker to Orton, and he helps Raven up.
(The two look around and see Joe and Orton getting to there feet. Raven Irish Whips Joe off the ropes and delivers a back body Drop. Meanwhile Orton is standing up in the corner, as he gets his bearings; Dean James delivers a drop kick.)
TAZZ: The Iceman and Raven are on fire! But what’s this? It’s Vince Russo; He’s on the apron arguing with the ref about the double team.
STYLES: And Raven has his Singapore Cane!!! Shot to Orton, shot to Joe, the Ref hasn’t seen it!!! And now Raven is pointing to Dean James.
(Dean sees the situation and drags Joe to his feet, Raven sees Orton standing up and delivers an Evenflow DDT, then turns and again points to Dean. Dean has Joe up for the Box Office Smash, the crowd is going nuts.)
(Suddenly, Raven swings the Singapore Cane and nails Dean James in the stomach. As Dean keels over, Raven delivers an Evenflow DDT to Dean James.)
STYLES: WHAT WAS THAT?!?!?!?! Raven just attacked his Tag Team partner!!! And now what?
(Raven picks up Orton and drops him on Dean James.)
TAZZ: The ref didn’t see any of that, but he’s watching now. 1…2…3!!!!! Orton and Joe win!
STYLES: Yeah, with a little help from Raven. I can’t believe what I just witnessed!!!
Winner - Randy Orton & Samoa Joe
Time - 11:26
(Raven is standing above Dean James sporting a sadistic smile. He then rolls out of the ring and grabs the WCW Undisputed Title belt. He looks at it with a mesmerized look on his face. He then climbs in the ring and stands over Dean James. He puts the title in his right hand and the cane in his left. He holds out his arms in victory.
STYLES: Is this the seen we could see at Rock the Vote? Will Raven get the fan’s vote? If so will he do to Dean what he did tonight? And what will Dean James do to Raven if he gets the chance? To find out, order Rock the Vote, this Sunday on Free-Per-View!! For Tazz, I’m Joey Styles, goodnight!
The scene fades to black with Raven standing victorious in the ring.
